"You know a guy got into Radiohead
too young if even his pockets reject
him." (x) One of the first bands I can
ever remember listening to. My parents
were big into 90's alternative, so a lot of
my early memories are backtracked by
Radiohead and the like. Saw them in
concert with my mom a few years ago.
Ah, Coldplay... What a fall you had.
Another really early interest of mine.
I'm unapologetically snobby when it
comes to them; as soon as Mylo Xyoto
was released I stopped tuning in. My 13
year old self felt very betrayed by the
increasingly "pop" direction they were
heading. Never change, 13 y/o me.
"My name is Björk and your
television is just
about to EXPLODE!" (x)
I was named "Isobel" for a short while. It
wasn't until my godmother sent a letter
addressing me as my parents' 2nd choice
that they changed their mind. Now, it's
inspired my own 3rd choice of name.
Predictably, it's my absolute favorite
song of hers. I'm a fountain of blood...
My very good friend/then-roommate & I
had somewhat of a K-pop renaissance over
quarantine. It started with learning the
"God's Menu" dance and snowballed from
there. I don't regret it at all, however - I've
made tons of friends thru K-pop & still
have a lot of fun. Thanks for starting it all,
Stray Kids :-) Very dear to my heart.
Speaking of K-pop, enter ATEEZ.
That same friend introduced me to
them shortly after. Fast forward a few
years and we've seen them live! One
of my favorite artists (& concerts) O.A.T.
My partner agrees - after we roped her
into it, of course. Some of the best K-pop
albums being put out right there in my
super un-biased opinion. 8 makes 1 team!
Circa Survive! Pretty much
got me through freshman year of
university. What happened after that?
Well... indie post-hardcore can only do
so much. I still genuinely think their
album "The Amulet" is a masterpiece.
Listen while playing Uncharted 4
instead of studying for the full effect.
Like any gay twenty-something year
old raised on the internet too early, I
fucking love Hatsune Miku. Many a night
in middle school were spent watching
holographic concerts and angsty AMVs
with my equally-lame friends. I don't
listen as much nowadays, but Miku will
always have a special place in my heart.
Listen... we all have our vices.
To my credit, any initial exposure
was purely osmosis via from my
two younger sisters and career-long
fans. Yes, I still listen on occasion. This is
probably the faggot-iest thing about
me, besides the long-term homosexual
relationship. Yuh, I guess.
"Ladies and gentlemen, lions, tigers &
bears, giraffes, sea urchins, alligators
& all that shit - I am Jazze Phenzel
Burgandy Obama Luther King Jr. Jackson
Five the 1st & I'd like to introduce to you
Brock Denzel AKA Blockhampton. Oh
boy!" (x) Supplementary university
support. Went to their concert right
before "Ginger" came out. Wasted!
(To add: Joe Hisaishi, KAI, Se So Neon, NCT 127, Reol, Snarky Puppy, Thank You Scientist,
EXO? TXT? Classical Russian composers?? Trying to cover all my bases!)
